We are a small Church of England School situated in the village of Sunningwell just to the North of Abingdon, set against open fields and under the gentle slopes of Boars Hill. Traditionally Sunningwell has a reputation as a friendly School, staff are committed to this principal and feel the children perform best in an environment where they are happy and settled. As a small School all children are known to staff and all staff well known to the children. This, in my view, helps us to create the supportive family atmosphere that is so vital to a child’s education.
We feel that the early years of schooling are the most important. So many vital skills are learnt and developed when a child begins their education. Our aim is to help a child develop the skills necessary for their future education and to help them reach
This though is only part of the story. For a child to achieve their potential they need to: feel safe and secure, have a good opinion of themselves, feel confident in the skills they have acquired, feel free to enquire further of a teacher, learn independence and co-operation whilst building a good attitude towards the challenges that face them. In addition children need to develop the spiritual and moral qualities of: trust, integrity and honesty. We are all committed to these goals and feel the best way of achieving them is to work towards an environment that strongly encourages the values of caring for others, hard work and achievement. If these values can be built in a happy school atmosphere, supported by teachers, parents, governors and children then we can build a school to be proud of and the most important years of a child’s life will be rewarding and fulfilling.
